Come out to Plague tonight, dammit!
I'm moving away and tonight is my little goodbye party. I will be spinning from 9-10, so get there early! Don't miss my set, because, unless I'm invited back up here to spin, or the Boston gothy-peeps let me play in their sandbox, I may not be spinning for a while!!
I will be playing some new tracks that you will almost assuredly hate! ;D
Come give me a hug goodbye, bitches!! Come hug me before I move to Boston to engage in acts of unspeakable evil! Come give me a hug before my soul turns completely black and I become anti-hug!!

My Goth Night - Breaking some stereotypes and finding - within the dark - lots of color and light.
An awesome article written about our local Goth night in one of local newspapers! I was pleased that the reporter seemed honestly interested in our subculture and wasn't condescending or otherwise offensive in her chronicling of "dark culture."
Here be my setlist from last Friday. I spun some new stuff (at least new to me) and I got a few people wanting to know what the deal was...

PLAGUE was 17 metric tons of awesome last night!! O.O The vibe was fantastic and the music was good (hats off to Rev. Benjamin Powers, 8-bit, and Chasm!) though the sounds slipped a little off the theme towards the end. But, I, not being a fan of so called old school, didn't mind that at all. I'm a sucker for someone throwing in a little Rage in the middle of a goth-ish set. I get a little tingle between my legs. Not only is there delicious contrast in the juxtaposition, RATM is one of my favorite bands of all time. Their song Freedom makes the Native in me want to kill the Whitey in me. Last night, people were just in a tremendous mood. Like life was good. Or maybe it was just me feeling good and coloring the perceived world around me in shades of awesome. But, I hope that wasn't just my delusion and everyone was indeed on The Up. I was rather bouncy. Bouncing off walls and into people. Tackling. Mock-humping. The works. The thing is, I've just felt so incredible lately. Besides all the usual frustrations, I felt in a state I hadn't felt in... well... to be quite honest I'm not sure I have ever felt this good. I'll ramble more about this in a "friend's only" post... This night, this event, is such an incredible thing for me. A haven of sorts. I don't mean to get all gushy on ya, but after a week of everyone looking at you like a freak (beyond just the gothiness...), feeling very awkward and alone, its nice to have a place to go to be an awkward freak with others. Sadly, the night seemed to go by so quickly. I did a little sketching, nothing fancy. If I can get my camera recharged before I finish this entry I will include a photo of the sketch. I really liked how I looked last night! I was totally rocking the fishnet! And I wore my corset, even though one of the bones is broken and is likely just rubbing around causing damage (to myself or the corset). :\ I thought my make-up turned out okay. I used three different color eyes shadows. A bright purple as the base across my entire lid, and above my lid til just a tick below my eyebrow. I then did a layer of deep red over the lid and a short line out towards my temples, outlined my lid in a dark plum color, and then did another quick brush of the red for more "POP!" I did my lips in two shades of purple, but the effect was not very dramatic. I also lined my eyes and lips with that black gel eye liner that I love to death. I can never do ANYTHING with my hair. It's a curly, wavy, frizzy mess. My hair in these photos is not made-up for old school night. THIS is actually what my hair normally looks like if I don't tame it with any sort of product. Lord knows I could never tease it... I'd never be able to get the kinks out! People always tell me what fantastic, beautiful, thick hair I have, but I think it's a pain in the ass. This is why I usually wear it up, or cover it in falls or something. :) These pics aren't the greatest. The last one I wasn't going to include. I like it because the composition is very different from what I typically do in those quick pre-club photo shoots. However, the angle blows, as it also shows off my ENORMOUS nose! Anyways... good times. :) ![]() Not much of a sketch, just my usual weirdo 'alternative anatomy' thing... |

Once I had taken a look at the DJ schedule and saw that I was spinning with Last night was weird. In the beginning I played a little of everything in hopes of finding something to get people to the floor. Finally, later in the night, I was actually able to get people out on the foor AND keep them there for a short while (thanks to a little coaching from I didn't do anything spectacular with my outfit, mostly due to a lack of time to get ready before heading out to the club. But, I did have fun with my make-up. The results of which I was most happy about. Normally I do a heavy black line above my eyes, but instead I shelved the eye liner and instead used some dark purple along my lashes and on the outside of my lids. This is on top of some EXTREMELY vibrant pink eye shadow I have. I did a similar effect on my lips by using two very bright purple and pink lipsticks. I started by putting the purple on my upper lip and the pink on my lover. Out of habit I squished my lips together, but this mistake resulted in a cool effect that I then built upon. And because I've dropped a little weight, I was able to max out my corset again last night! (Though I loosened it a little before I got to the club) |
I was hella-depressed last night. On the way to the club I was sobbing heavily. For a second I feared my make-up might run, and then I remembered it was old school goth night, so weepy smeared eye make-up might be entirely appropriate.
There is a lot of stresses in my life that are all tied together, and they seem to each feed into the other. One thing prevents me from curing another ill, which directly keeps another aspect of my life in the dumpster. It's this round-a-bout of frustration. There is no point of getting into details, needless to say I was feeling quite bad. (I'll likely save the gory details for the friends-only post).
Once I got to the club though, and got up behind the decks I began to feel much better. Also, many member of the gothy crew are far bigger and more important reasons to be down, frustrated, and anxious as of late... so this helped me put my own problems in proper perspective.
My set was kind of all over the place. I don't really do old school, and got my wife to suggest a number of songs. But it was fun and a challenge, so that was cool.
I FINALLY got to meet
cheshirebunny! Which was most delightful. Hopefully next time we speak I will be in a slightly clearer state of mind. :)
My sister-in-law, brother-in-law and a co-worker of mine all came out to Plague to hear me spin, so that was very cool. I think my co-worker could be a "goth convert." She doesn't get out much, but once she finally relaxes I think the gothy environment would suit her well! She avoids a lot of social interaction because people think she is weird and too big of a geek. And I'm like, "Yeah... you're in the right place here..." *puts on geeky-goth glasses* B)
Soooo... BLAH!
Ahahahahahaaa... it's just occurring to me that this Friday, when I spin next, is old school night at Plague. So now I'm pawing through my music collection looking for anything that might be considered "old school."
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five... that's old school... right?! >;)
I have 70+ remixes of various Depeche Mode songs.
Hrmmmm...

I had a blast last night! I dressed in my best corporate goth attire. I was soooo happy because my wife ( Stepping up to the decks had me a little on edge. It feels like it had been ages since I spun last. But, I think everything went well. I was pleased with my choices and my technical moves, and I received no complaints. :) Unfortunately, we had to leave early, so I only caught the first part of Chasm's set, and missed ZNUH! entirely. Bad DJ etiquette, I know. Very sorry. No insult was intended! I generally like to stay nearby and listen to everyone else's sets. If for nothing else, then to take notes on awesome tracks and technical maneuvers |

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COMIC!! And BTW, I'm spinning tonight at Plague. I'm opening up for Chasm and ZNUH! PLAGUE at The Asylum 121 Center Street, Portland, Maine Come early or else you'll miss the hot lesbian sex and shaved hampster orgy!! And, remember, living 3000 miles away is NO EXCUSE for not being there! I do believe I'm opening up again on 9/14 and headlining on 9/28... So mark your calenders! |
Here are the pictures I promised from Friday night!
I think lighter colored eye shadows with very simple black eyeliner with flirty upswings on the corner of each eye, and maybe a little mascara, look best on me. As much as I pictured myself with heavy blackened, "smokey" eyes, I don't think it really looks good I me. I think I can do "cute" better than I sultry.
Also, my fringe in these pictures is at the length I think looks best with my face.
( +4 )
I put soooo much product in my hair, and it is still frizzy. :\
My hair is not happy about the humidity.
The last picture is kind of stupid... but I was wearing the bolt braclet I made, so I wanted to pose with it. XD
My face has soften so much over these past 13 months. I really didn't realize it until I saw these photos. My chin-line especially has thinned out.
Very, very, very, very happy. :)
![]() I look like a drag queen... :\ |
First off, this is not the best picture of me. I spun last night, so to be there early enough I had to rush home, get ready as fast as I could and then head back out to the city. I sort of just threw my make up on, and if I had time to think about it I would have toned down the "Drag Queen Factor." I also, for the first time attempted to outline my entire eye... I have mixed feelings about the result. I also majorly fucked up on my lip liner, making a curved mark on the left side of my face. Luckily I'm a master at making fuck-ups look intentional. I stepped back from the mirror and thought the mark looked like a fang... so I was like... "Fuck it!" and I just made a matching mark on the right. XD And, yes, I am wearing the meat skewers in my hair again. This time, however, I only used two of them, and they were actually holding my hair up. Plague last night was SOOOO much fun!! I do so enjoy the spinworks of My set went alright. I mostly took the opportunity to play some new music I've happened upon since last time I spun. I've fallen in deep, deep love with Lords of Acid especially the song I Like It. I also threw in a remix of The Knife's We Share Our Mother's Health as I promised I would. Not sure if anyone took notice, but there was an ongoing theme of sex, BDSM and gender-fucking through out my set. >:D OH! And check it out! I got huge props from people about the stickers -- some of the people tossing about compliments didn't even realize I was the one who made the logo. :) I'm totally putting this on my car!! >:D Fun had by all. Good, good night. :) |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Too much pink? |
Yeah... I know... it's closer to the NEXT Plague, than the last one... but I've been busy lately, alright! :D Friday night was an absolute blast! I met some fantastic people, including a fellow industrial musician and a fellow comicer (or soon to be)! The vibe was really killer. And the after party was also an incredible time. Yes, I think what made it so wonderful a time, was the uneasy sense of love and peace in the air. O.o I've discovered that I actually like Yager!! In my early days of alcohol consumption, I couldn't stand the stuff. However, my two favorite drinks at the momement -- Mad Moxie and Red Headed Slut -- both use the vile potion quite liberally. I didn't get too dramatically dressed. I packed on a ton of pink blush and looked a little trampish (just the way I like it!) I also wore a lot of chain... which mad eme realize, I need more chain... and more things to attach it too. I need to acquire (or perhaps make) a nice set of bondage accessory: cuffs, belts, collar, etc. So people can have fun chaining me up! >;) Also, the fourth image was me trying to take a picture of my own corseted waist (which is harder than one might imagine!) That corset is a 26-incher, and I can easily max it out now. I need to keep my eyes open for a good deal on a smaller one. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Goth Geisha! |
HOLY JEEBLES!! Last night was so much fun!! I invited some of my very non-goth co-workers out to the club. And they had a fantastic time! They couldn't say enough nice things about the people and the music. Normally they are the types to wander around the drunken, sketchiness of the Old Port**, and they made some very important observations about going to a goth night versus just about every other bar experience:
These are the same things I've always said are definate positives about the scene at large: People are generally respectful, intelligence, entertaining, interesting, and damn creative! And I may have found some converts! They enjoyed themselves so much that they talked about coming back. They promised to try to dress more the part next time, as they felt a little out of place in their blue jeans (I told them to wear black and they would be fine). Sure, they might just be "weekenders," but I say if someone just wants to "play goth" for the night and come out and have fun with us, I see no harm in that. I understand how people can get protective, that "NO! This is ARE THING!!" But, if people are being respectful and playing along (and contributing to the night by paying the cover and buying lots of drinks) then I generally say, the more the merrier. I had convinced another co-worker to come out, but she didn't show (I don't work with her directly, she is a schedular for one of our surgeons). Which made me really sad because this person confessed to me that she "used to be a goth" but, she "grew out of it..." Grow out of it? I don't think so. ;D But perhaps she will be around next time. Last night was apparantly the "Tell Brynn how incredibly awesome she is" sort of night. Which for someone who has trouble taking compliments, it was really kind of weird. It's makes me feel really good, but really umcomfortable at the same time. People really liked my outfit, which made me feel absolutely fantastic! My co-workers (one of which didn't even know I was transgendered, and saw me for the first time last night en femme) said that I looked hotter than they ever could. *BLUSH* People seemed to really like the look of the meat skewers in my hair. I was really happy with how that turned out!! I even glued on my chrome bindi, which I used to wear all the time. I swear, at least TWO DOZEN people asked me "Did it hurt to get that pierced?" (Hehehee... people always assume its a piercing). I had this evil goth geisha look going on! Also, there seemed to be a lot of compliments about my DJin' thrown my way. Which is a huge shock to me (and great compliment), especially when they come from a long-standing DJ in the scene. And then there is the afterparty... something we need not discuss... *shifty eyes* **Downtown Portland, the older part of the city that is closest to the ocean, that has a shitload of bars and drunk people that usuall fill them on the weekends). |
![]() ![]() ![]() Picture perfect... kinda... |
Friday was quite groovy! Due to the mix of acts performing, there was this weird mix ofg0fffffffzz and the techno-peeps. And despite the heterogeneous nature of the crowd (and the oil and water like ways they stayed apart) people were generally cool and I think it made for a positive atmosphere. There should be more sub-culture minglers like this. XD I wish I could comment on all the events of the night... but I must admit, between getting their late and speading most of my evening engaged in conversation, drinking and other assorted evil, I can't quite remember most of what went on. ... So, let's just talk about ME shall we? I finally got to wear my Fairy Princess Dreads!! I didn't have time to securely mount them on anything, so just wrapped them in a hair band and threw them on my head (attached to two small claw clips at the top of pigtails) Then I took two purple boas and wrapped those around the base of the falls. The effect was quite colorful and VOLUMINOUS! I felt quite ugly from mutilating my face earlier in the week, so I got a tad more adventurous with my make-up, mostly to draw attention away from the nasty bumps and marks around my chin. I also wore my beloved pink, spiked collar and matching bracelet. Sadly I think I lost my bracelet in the back of my elven friend's car (possibly, along with a dread or two) when I de-gothed after the night was through. :\ Oh, well. :) |
Sorry, not much of a pic. I was runnning extremely late and could only grab a quick self-portrait (Yes, I'm looking up and away again). Which sucks, because I thought things were going on quite nicely south of my neck, but, meh. A number of people said that last night I've looked the best I ever had (not that this pic demonstrates that well) so that was most encouraging. :)
(Sporting my Vacationland Vixens shirt! ;)
Plague was most fun last night! Unfortunately due to the stormy Maine weather not as many people made it out as normal, but the vibe was quite positive. It's been a couple weeks since I've made it out, and even longer since a few others had, so it was nice to reconnect.
I thought my set went quite well. I had a couple of rough patches, but I personally thought it was one of my better sets. Other agreed, as I got more compliments last night than I have in the past. Hopefully a sign that I am improving in my skillzzzz.
Another reason, however, is that I came PREPARED. I made sure this week I had those artists that are always good to have on hand: Apoptygma Berzerk, Blutengel, Absurd Minds, Assemblage 23, Informatik, etc. As a result I was able to fulfill a good number of requests, which might account some of the compliments afterwards. Surprisingly, people LIKE IT when you play what they ask for!! Who'dah thought?
I had the pleasure of sharing the decks with Copper Top, Rabid Angel, and Gabriell. I was most honored. :)
At the after party I had a great discussion with a fine lady who mentioned she was thinking about doing a webcomic. I informed her that I might be able to provide some insight into that process. ;D
Tonight is a meeting for the Flatline Committee, to discuss next weekend's event. I'm really looking forward to it! I just hope I can finish my dreadfalls by then! O.O
So if you will excuse me, I need to push through my hangover get showered and go find places to pimp Flatline. First on my list, the Mad Monkey Cafe.
I have two ambitious projects I would like to get done today, both of which will directly impact how groovy my outfit for Plague next week will be.
Project #1: I acquired a pair of these really hot blue vinyl pants from one of my sister-in-laws. Despite being a little short in the legs (I stand a good foot over said sister) they fit decently (like good vinyl pants should, TIGHT) and my ass looks fantastic in them. Unfortunately, they also have a weak seam up the back that is just begging to tear open. So I've decided I'm going to try and turn them into a skirt. However, I have YET to actually pull such a conversion off, but I want to figure out how because I've got a few pairs of pants I'd like to change over to skirts (It has symbollic meaning for me, okay ;)
Project #2: For a while now I have been playing around with making hair falls -- with varying degrees of success. I've been trying out different braiding and attachment methods. Well I am thinking that I would like to make a set of falls to match my new skirt (if Project #1 pans out). I'm going to be making mine out of everyday wool/yarn. Really fantastic falls are made from the various styles of Kanekalon Synthetic Hair. Kanekalon is the standard. But other materials like wool, ribbon, lace, cut foam, wire, string, rope and tubular crinoline are utilized as well. Basically, use whatever the hell you want to achieve your prefered asthetic.
The above projects could fail miserably (and probably will). But, it's all in the name of learning. Failure makes me a better artist.
Or so I like to delude myself.
I was up til 7ish this morning, slept until the evening hours, got up and haven't done much else (getting a little done around the house and enjoying crash time with my honey). I've felt heavy in contemplation the past 24 hours about a lot of the usual things -- the future, the world, what the hell I'm doing here, people, places.
Last night was pretty groovy. I got there later than I wanted and it started my night off with a hectic state of mind. I was not pleased with my set, as I was a little on edge and had trouble calming down and just enjoying the moment. It seemed like forever since I had been behind the decks. I need to find a way to practice the craft.
I wore my 50ft of rope in an upper body harness-thingy. It didn't turn out as cool as it did that other night, mostly because I was trying to tie it in-between cueing up tracks. But I got a tons of compliments on it. Many asked who tied it, and I proudly (though sheepishly) admitted that it was of my own creation. My Dwarvin (as in Tolkien dwarves, not little people) friend who is also a big fan of rope tied an absolutely gorgeous rope design on me later in the evening (and then threaten to kidnap me and bring me down to the Fetish Flea Market). My rope trick seems to bring a few fellow "closet riggers" out into the open. I suggested we form a learning club to increase our skills.
Sally the Alterboy performed last night spinning glow stick poi. He was really cool. Earlier in the night he saw me spinning my bondage ropes and he came over and attached a set of his glow sticks on the ends of my ropes. I tried spinning and didn't do to bad. The ceiling is really low, and I am very tall, so I found myself spinning and kneeling alot. This posture was chosen out of necessity, but many thought it was very cool and I got a lot of compliments. Which blew me away as I don't really have much experience spinning, and last night I was doing some tricks for the first time -- sometimes making shit up as I went.
The after party was cool. I got the chance to have some great conversations with some people that I had not previously had the pleasure of engaging before. Very cool. The night ended on a weird note, nothing I care to get into. All I will say that I hope it does not leave any scars.
I was exhausted from not really having slept the night before, and had a massive headache all night. I sucked it up for the most part, but the drive home at 6 in the morning really freaked me out. I was so out-of-my-mind tired that I was scared that I might pass out or start hallucinating. Luckily, I made it home, and into bed, before any passing out occurred.
Which is why I slept all damn day today! XD
There has been a last minute change in the DJ line up for Friday's Black Light Ball, I will be spinning in the 9-10pm slot, if you would like to come out early and show me love.
I'll let you tug on my rope! ;)

Last night was quite brill. Ever since I first started attending Plague, one name has been continuously directed my way: Voltaire. Most often it was spoken in such a manner as to assume my familiarity with the man. But, I knew nothing about him. I assumed he was an industrial artist. As it turned out he is not, but he is an artist in just about every other conceivable genre and medium. It's him, with an acoustic guitar singing about geeky, gothy stuff. But not only that, he is a cartoonist, an illustrator and a carrier of infectious creativity. I found him to be most inspirational, being a person with a million different creative pursuits.
AND I GOT THEE CUTEST DOLLY!! Voltaire had dolls of his own design and he was giving away one of each. Basically, he said that he was going to describe a character, and if you fit the description, raise your hand. I thought to myself, "Man, I would love to get one of those dolls (I didn't have the cash to buy one)! But what are the chances that he is going to have one that fits me?"
He got to about the doll and began to describe this character. His descrioption ended with the following, "...so she is either really skinny, or she is really a man." I lept to my feet and made a rush for the stage. The audience parted as I approached. A great number of people turned around and pointed, some screaming "Brynn! Brynn! That's Brynn!" So Voltaire smiled and threw the doll my way.** I was greatly pleased.
There were also delightful performances last night. A sneak peak performance of the Nutcracker Burlesque and a performance from the gothic belly-dancing troupe Belli Bone. Both performances were quite entertaining!
A lot of fun to be had. This scene is so absolutely fabulous, and ROBUST! O.O
And to think, I almost didn't go out last night (again), because I was all stressed about all the work I needed to get done. One lesson to be learned from this is learning the proper balance between work and play.
I was out till about 5 this morning, woke up just a few short minutes ago, so now I must get my ass to work! COMICS COMICS COMICS COMICS! o.O
** As
dehuman8 just reminded me, Voltaire threaten to cut anyone who tried to take the doll away from me. God.... how could I forget a detail like that!! XD
