ZBrush: 10-minute modelling...
After lurking in a number of ZBrush forums, I've discovered it is quite a popular thing to see what awesome things you can sculpt, as fast as possible, in 10, 20, or 30 minutes. Most often the sculpting process is recorded in a timelapse fashion so you can show off your work flow. (Zbrush actually has a recorder build right into the program).

So in a mere 10 minutes I produced the following...

And I uploaded my timelapse sculpting to YouTube to show off my process (~1 min)...

I sooooo love this stuff! I want to get uber good and then pretend like I can actually find a job doing this sort of thing. :X

For those counting...
Polygons: 524,288

Super cool! I gotta get that program eventually. It would totally suck away any remaining free time I have now, lol.

Awesome!

It is one of the coolest programs I've ever used. Really straight forward, easy to learn, and very powerful! It's worth the complete loss of free time. Hell... it's even worth the innevitable loss of sleep!! ;D

it kinda looks like its made of wax.

that program must be pretty powerful to keep it rendered so well even while you're sculpting

Heheheh... red wax is the default material. And I think it's the best one to sculpt with. And, yeah, I'm not sure of the technical details, but the method by which Zbrush keeps track of the model info allows you to work in a higher polygon count without over-taxing your system. You can even enter a Hi-Def sculpting mode (millions and millons of polys)! That's when my computer starts to buckle. :D

Wow, you're getting really good at this! I saw the video and was surprised how long you took on detailing after it looked pretty done...maybe the resolution/pic size was too small to really see what you were doing at that point. I have to say though, that is one damn ugly mug.

Thank you!

Yeah... I didn't set the quality of the video super high, but at those points I'm adding the minute texture detailing of the skin (all the bumpiness). Definitely the less thrilling part of the process.

high polygon count

High Polygon counts are the DEVIL... :p

Sadly, ya need em most of the time for believable models that aren't all blocky n stuff... Now, I'm replying to an older thread, but having seen the progression, I'm impressed...

Had talked to my parter in Poser, etc., and he'd mentioned playing w/ZBrush at school (He goes to Otis Art Academy (or w/e) in L.A.) but that the models were incredibly high polygon count, making them a REAL tax on weaker systems...

I'm curious, actually, to see... any chance U can send me an .OBJ format of one of your models??? if U need my e-mail, let me know... I know you're in my book (as the occaisional joke I've sent should show), not presuming the reverse tho... :p

I'll gladly send you a OBJ. Send me an email at thelemurgod ATZ gmail DOTZ com so I know I have your correct email addy.

bump mapping

looking at the intense work you're doing on the detailing, just a thought, we usually use bump and displacement mapping in the programs I've used (Bryce, Poser, DAZ Studio) to do a LOT of that fine line detailing... tho, if the map resolution is low, just like with textures, it looks like shit.

If you apply that TALENTED hand o yours to your maps, I'm AFRAID of the models I'm gonna be seeing outta you... ^^

I'd love some o that content for my work...
