Warmonger demands peace!!
Bush calls for peace in the Middle East...

Anyone else find something ironic about Bush calling for peace in the Middle East. It's like Hitler condemning China for human rights violations. Afterall, Israel's military action is well justified and very likely to actually cause some damage to an actual terrorist threat.

Imagine that.

Not only that, the Bush administration has ALLOWED this to go on for this long without taking serious steps. Sure they sent Rice to Israel and Lebanon, but that was justa token gesture.

In fact, I recall hearing a soundbyte that amounted to "yes we'd like it to stop, but not quite yet" - they were effectively allowing this to go on for as long as it did.

I'm so tired of the lot of them. I made a similar comment in someone elses LJ whi was talking about things happening in the Middle East. The loss of human life due to sectarian and ideological conflicts on this planet is simply disgusting on all sides, and ALL sides are to blame.

Perhaps the human race doesn't deserve to survive, and perhaps "the end" (whatever that is) may come, but it won't be because of some imagined deity (or deities) or something told in prophesy, it will be by our own folly, perhaps by a handful of idiots trying to make their imagined religious prophesies come true.

I just had a great conversation with [info]dehuman8 on this very subject last night.

I look forward to a time when most of our energies are focused upwards. Our resources and passions become about exploring our universe. So we can get over our petty problems and broaden our scope, viewpoint, outlook and come together as a singular humanity. Though the cynic is convinced that there will not be this peace on Earth, until we are attacked by aliens. People seem to need a foe to unite, maybe its a tribal instinct hold over. Apparantly "ignorance" about our universe is not thirlling enough an enemy. :(

Yeah, because our war in Iraq is totally unjustified, except that we found the largest foreign terrorist training camp since 2001 Afghanistan on the Iraq/Iran border in 2003, and chemical weapons in Iraq, and we know for a fact that Hussein was using his country's money to fund/contribute to Hamas and Hezbullah. But totally unjustified, of course. I've spent two of the past three years in Iraq, I've seen the best and worst it has to offer in places like Baghdad and Balad and Ramadi, and it's a justified war against a known expansionist, genocidal, tyrannical, terrorist-support regime. I'm not saying that what Israel is doing to Hezbullah isn't justified, it is. But please have your facts straight about the nature of the war in Iraq before you criticize Bush's choice to fight it.

to anon. fuckhead (anon. posts are cowardly by the way). you are an absolute fucktard. your 'justifications' have all been proven as us press corps propaganda (excluding the funding of hamas & hezbollah that is true). your facts are fucked. i've know many people who've served in iraq & are currently over there. they however are people with the ability to reason (which you seem to lack utterly since you seem to believe everything stamped with th G.W.Bush seal of approval). you sir are the reason that america is going down the tubes (not because you are serving, that i can respect) because you think with an overinflate american-centric ego, the 'go usa rah! rah! rah!' mentality. you have the mindset of a cheerleader in highschool cheering for the home team, even when the coach is a proven rapist. when you actually learn to think for yourself & learn to actually read what people have posted then come back, untill then stay the fuck out of america, i don't want you back.

I'd just like to point out, that a lot of soldiers currently stationed in Iraq read Disassemblance (and I have the site stats to prove it -- or perhaps the Iraqi people just LOVE me! ;) ) and many of them do not have LJ accounts, so are forced to post Anon. For example, PFC Steve has contributed worthwhile commentary on a number of occasions. Though he will usually at least sign his Anon posts, so I know it is him.

For the record, that was posted by PFC Steve, (though now it's Specialist Steve). I forgot to sign my name to it, and for that I apologize. But fuckhead will serve just fine as well. A part of my wants to tell you to go fuck yourself, since you apparently lack the testicular fortitude for anything but cynicism. But that would be an ad homonum attack, and that's not the purpose of this discussion. So while I am an American centrist, since it is still the greatest nation on the planet, in my opinion (I wouldn't go to war for less), my facts about terrorist training camps in Iraq is based on things both accounted to me from friends in the 101st AB who worked in Northern Iraq, and from the book Masters of Chaos by Linda Robinson, about US Army Special Forces. I know a few of them, and they're not given to needlessly exaggerate. Their lives are exciting enough. As for WMDs, multiple different sources have confirmed chemical artillery pieces being used for IEDs. Unbeknownst to the Haajis, the chemicals mix in flight, so they're inert when buried in the ground for an IED. Nonetheless, chemical decontamination isn't much fun. But you're not going to believe anything I have to say, because I'm just a total fucktard who is too stupid for anything but marching and carrying a gun, right?
Oh, and by the way, I'm already back in America. It's my motherfucking home, and I will continue to go to war to defend her. Not only because my fiancee and family live here, but because it is still the greatest nation on the planet. What have you done for her?

I never said it was "totally unjustified," it was a comparative statement.

I never suggested that the invasion of Iraq was a horrible thing that couldn't possibly had any worthwhile results, I was comparing the situation to the the Israeli conflict. That is sure as hell is not as justified as Israel's conflict.

And here's why...

The Israelis are making a well-choreographed military effort as counter-effect to a direct assault against them made by an obvious, and upfront terrorist outfit. The US on the other hand, entered into a dubious conflict under the suggestion that Iraq have weapons of mass destuction and was a direct threat to our nation. They didn't, they weren't. Saddam wasn't kidnapping our soldiers, or planning to send rockets into the US. Hell, he couldn't even if he wanted to!

Israel made a sober response to a direct threat to their lives. The US used shady intelligence to enter into conflict with a sovereign nation that made no direct threat to our nation. Remember, our attack was "pre-emptive."

Israel is specifically at war with a terrorist organization. We made war with a sovereign government that has "ties to terrorism."

It's two very, very different situations.


But the reasoning you've provided to justify our invansion of Iraq, would also apply to just about every other country in the Middle East. It would seem Iraq is really the least of our concerns in that respect. Hell even, Saudi Arbia, has connections to terrorist organizations!**

Should we invade them all too? Even if no direct threat is made against us? Are you ready to pack up in Iraq and move onto Iran? How about Syria? Join Israeli in Lebanon perhaps?

I never said that the Iraq invasion was completely unjustified, just that compared to the Israeli conflict (not to mention the fact that we are not consistant in our application of such reasoning) is rendered impotent.

Will good things come of Saddam being torn from power? I can almost guarantee it. But all the good that comes from it after the fact, cannot then be tacked on to the validity of the original justification.


**It is also worthwhile to note that our own country has supported terrorist groups int he past, when it has been to our advantage.

And remember, we SUPPORTED Saddam early on, because he was seen as a powerful force AGAINST communism and radical Islam. Saddam was to be our way of fighting back against Russia and Iran int he early 80's!!

But seriously, I'd simply encourage you to pursue the truth at all costs and be prepared to fight ignorance whenever and whereever you can. Remember, most people spout off shit because they honestly think its the truth, not because they WANT to be ignorant, or complete douchebags (this is not directed at the anon poster, per se). The only solution is to take every possible opportunity to educate, that the only way knowledge is spread. And, unfortunately, its an uphill battle (as most worthwhile battles are). But it is necessary, or everyone will be consumed!

And also add that a sledgehammer is not always the best weapon against ignorance. ;)

It seems to be the way it is.

The entire situation in Lebanon is, in my opinion, FUBAR. Hezbollah needs to be disarmed, yes, but Israel has seemed to switch gears from disarming Hezbollah to Operation Bomb the Shit out of Lebanon. I'm all for Israel defending themselves from terror, but effectively isolating the whole of Lebanon from the outside world, cutting off routes for desperately needed humanitarian needs, and wiping out far more civilians than enemy combatants? How is that in any way fighting terrorism?
