Summer has been crazy and eventful. A lot to write about, despite having essentially abandoned LJ. (I blame the iPhone and the lack of a decent writing/reading app for LJ -- Twitter has taken over as my blogging primary.). However, my adventures in Canada and all the fabulous people I met while here (some having been long term LJ Friends that I only know just met) is inspiring me to return to my LJ'in. Though I will almost certainly cull my friends list.
Wow... It's actually feels weird to post more than 140 characters. O.o
Testing to see if this DreamWidth post successfully posts to my LJ...
Okay, can someone clue me into what all the excitement about Dreamwidth is about? It seems like more and more people on my F-list are signing up and I'm not entirely sure why? Superficially it seems to be basically just another LJ... am I missing something? Are there extra cool awesome features? I've even heard people are abandoning LJ completely for it. Is this primarily a political thing?
What's the deal?
I mean... I see all this stuff about how it's all about being part of a creative community and they encourage you to "share what you create" but I'm a little confused about what in their service is anymore conducive to creatives than any other journaling service.
Questions for all those on my friend's list who use Loud Twitter or similar service...
Is it possible to set it to post to your LJ 1 post per tweet, excluding replies to other Twitter folks?
I adore the Facebook app that post tweets to my FB, and would like something that would do the same for LJ.
I tend not to tweet a ton, and a lot of what I do tweet about are things that I would also do as a "quickie post" to LJ. (eg. bitching about work, talking about kinky events, etc...) The thing is a lot of this info are things I'd share to the greater circle of acquaintances, and tweeting the information and having to re-post to all my other social-networking services would be very handy.
Thanks for any info!
Going to see a matinee of Watchmen with my girl at noon-ish.
I'm so excited! O.o
Last night Cat finally exposed me to my first Dr. Who. And I loved it! :D
"City of Death" if I'm not mistaken. Tom Baker is most amusing.
I'm a bad geek. It took me until the age of 30 before seeing so much as a single episode.
My bangs have been long enough to get in my eyes for a while now. Normally, I'd be long overdue to trim back the fringe, but Kitty thinks it looks better when it's this long, so I figured I let them be long again and see how it feels. The issue I have with them at this length is that I habitually brush the hair out of my eyes which leads to an unflattering part. I look terrible with a part... this being part of the reason I went with bangs. Also, my eyes are my best feature, so the thought of long bangs that hide them makes me fear a drastic drop in my visual appeal.
Having said all that, short bangs make me look cute, but I have been itching for sometime to take my look away from open and cute and more towards something a little more brooding and hidden. So, in that case, long bangs would be a step in the right direction. As well, I've had it in my head to try an asymmetrical fringe, so I figure if I'm growing it out this might be a good time to try it.
Now... I typically am not an asymmetrical kind of person (mentally perhaps, but not physically). In terms of visual appeal I generally prefer symmetry in my appearance. But an asymmetrical fringe may be an worthwhile deviation. Afterall, my short curly frames was an accident/experiment/impulse that turned out immensely well. I regularly get comments about how cute/unique/well-suited such an unusual hair cut is on my face. So maybe I'll have as much luck with an asymmetrical fringe?
Worse comes to worse, I can always cut it straight again. :)
I also REALLY want to dye it again.
I've got some cotton candy pink in my bathroom cabinet. >:)
Correction: I thought both members were present, but was mistaken. Subject should read: "Dresden Dolls Amanda Palmer Vid... LOVE IT!"
ganked from
dystocia
It's funny... The Dresdon Dolls are an example of one of those bands that I absolutely hated when first exposed to them, but now I totally adore them. (Currently one of the most played bands on my iPod). I hate to admit it, but my initial dislike was based in the fact that, years back before they were big, every hipster douche bag I met was totally enamored by them. But now, the hype has faded a little and I can quietly sit down, listen to their music and make it my own.
Half-Jack isn't necessarily about transgenderism, but most of the lyrics are so emotionally impacting to me because when I hear them they exemplify so much of what I have felt going through gender transition.
I'm pretty psyched, according to the UPS website, the air compressor I order should arrive this evening. That means if I am trapped in for the weekend due to the weather, I'll feel totally not guilty about sitting around for three days oing nothing but practicing my airbrushing.
I've had the airbrush itself for a while. I've always wanted to get into airbrushing. I feel it is exactly the sort of painting experience and look I want to obtain. Through out my many years of painting, I've been trying to obtain a "look" with brush and acrylics that I eventually figured out is in fact what results from the airbrush.
And, yes, a big thrust towards airbrush is the fact that my biggest artistic influence (HR Giger) uses one.
I have a little Iwata Eclipse HP-BCS airbrush... and the Iwata Smart Jet is on it's way.
*SQUEE!*
My pin-up goddess idol. :(

kittyarrr and I finally got around to watching Sweeney Todd. I really enjoyed it, despite being a musical. We both really hate musicals.
I'm a sucker for tragic endings.
I finally got around to adding a ton of people to my friend's list whom I had met through one of various social gatherings via
jhenaphere and
amavia.
So, to you all, I say "Hi!"
I was the non-Jenny tall chick.

The following are the results from tweaking the program I presented in my last entry. I decided to see what happens when I got rid of the lines, and just let the circles fill the screen. I was pleasantly surprised!! As you can tell, I made minor changes to the code and got many, many different results. The following are a select few:

( Lot's more under cut!! )
My first few visual works generated entirely through code, in the Processing language. All are randomly generated from the same code (though with some obvious slight tweaks.) The heart of the code is an iteration that randomly selects a point on the screen and draws a line. Each drawn line extends until it hits the edge of the screen, or hits another line. This repeats for anywhere between 24,000 and 30,000 times.
And in the case of the fourth one... I have it draw a cirle where ever it crashes into another line.

Also a couple screen shots from my increasingly complex artificial life simulation. Though, the pictures aren't much to look at, the real entertainment is seeing them in motion. Swimming around, latching onto food and humping each other...

A member of our community in Portland was viciously attacked on his way home from the club by two dipshits. They apparently were harassing him, calling him a "fag" before the assault. The incident occurred just outside his home. He suffered significant head trauma, and ended up at the hospital with a concussion. Some people/person came to his aid, but the attackers are still roaming the streets.
I am deeply disturbed by this. Despite my relocation I still consider Portland home, and the community that resides there, my family.
I threw together a website tonight to put the information out there and to collect donations towards his medical costs: healportland.com
From what I can gather from the flurry of LJ posts and mass emails, there is already an outreach to the community at large, and to the media to hopefully get some leads on who these fuckers were who did this.
Hrmmmm... seems I got kicked out of Google's Adsense program for "invalid clicking." I have no idea what that means. I can only assume that it was due to the fact the person someone got a little too zealous with the clicks.
Oh well... I made a few hundred bucks from it. I could appeal, but I had planned to take those stupid things off Dis once I got it back up and running. They just saved me the trouble of having to fudge with the code now...
YAY!! Finally made it out to my first gothy night, last night, since moving to Boston-ish: Shelter.
Very, very, very much fun!! :)
I should have given more notice so I could have planned to meet up with people, but, meh... it seems to be the plan to make it out, somewhere, every week. So... WOOT!
Something for the to do list...
Perhaps it was
jenaflynn's suggestion of having a "Baking and Board Game" night, but my brain has swung back to the realm of abstract strategy games, more specifically the dozen or so I have invented.
In the past I've created animations to demonstrate how my games are played. Now that I have the skillzzz with 3D modeling/animation, I'm now pondering modeling virtual prototypes for my games and perhaps creating animations of sample games being played out.
Of course, when I will find the time to do this, is an entirely different matter.
I'm really proud of my games and know that I will see all of them materialize. I always figured I'd get around to actually making physical versions of them when I'm too old to do anything but whittle.
This post is pure vanity. I just really need that sort of moment right now. Something to make me feel cute. An ego/confidence boost in this time of crappy weirdness.
I cut my hair the other day. My hair has been totally asymmetrical since that faithful day when I got one side of my hair caught in a rotary tool and had to cut myself free. The extremely uneven sides have been annoying me. As well... I've wanted to do something with the sides around my face for quite sometime. I had considered cutting my bangs REALLY wide, like I used to, but I've done that already so wanted something a little different. So, on a whim, I cut both sides short -- longer than my fringe, but much shorter than the rest of my hair. At first I didn't like it as my hair is wavy, and at short lengths gets a very strong natural curl. However, it's starting to grow on me. With my hair back it can look very "danish boy" (
klemrev said I look like a flapper) but I kinda of like how it curls around and frames my eyes. I may let it grow longer and see how it will look just a smidge beyond my jaw line.
Anyways... enough rambling... some pics.
The first is from the other night shortly after I did it... the rest are from today.
OH! Almost forgot... I didn't actually pierce my lip. I just put a dummy ring in so I can get used to having metal there and decide if I want a piercing there or not. Let me know how it looks on me!!
I may also get two rings, instead -- one on each side.
